DOUBLE DECKS
Two decks, one for dining and sunning, and another for a private outdoor shower and biffy with a world class view. A sturdy hammock sits on the deck atop the gin-clear river below. You can look down 90 feet into the pools and rapids or up into the treetops that soar 60 feet overhead. We idly count migrating steelhead from the deck rail.
MODERN KITCHEN
Basic kitchen has utensils, a new gas stove and an oven. A freezer/fridge provides storage for your perishables and ice for your drinks. Spring water is worth bottling to take home. Inside sit down dining for five, with additional dining on the deck aside the fire and river.

CHILL THRILLS
Fly Fishing
Our guests fly fish for steelhead and salmon and rainbow trout on a private water access. Strictly managed water means this is all catch and release, barbless fishing. Fishing is yearlong and holds challenging and beginner water. A sandbar below the cabin, within sight of the deck, is perfect to teach beginners the art of casting.
The Volcano
Mount St Helens
We are honored to be a favorite ‘residence’ for visitors for the Mt St Helens Institute. Hiking and exploring the volcano is a rare opportunity, and we will assist you with your volcano plans. Check all the options available with the institute and read their most recent newsletter.
Hiking - Ecotouring - Geocaching
Welch Cabin is nestled on 19 private acres, surrounded by miles of mountainous Weyerhaeuser forest. Private roads and trails wind through the forest, leading to creeks and rivers. Enjoy easy hikes and frequent wildlife sightings, including Roosevelt elk herds, blacktail deer, bald eagles, herons, and more!
VISITOR REVIEWS
We had an amazing week at your cabin. The weather was perfect! While watching from the deck, we saw otters, a beaver swimming upriver and eagles flying in the sky. There was a cat spider on the porch we named and enjoyed watching her build her web. Our dogs loved every second of running around and it's so nice to find a vacation place where they are welcome.
The Carlsons
This cabin is incredible. The path down to the water shows years of work and clearing. The river itself is stunning, you can see fish taunting you feet away. We were greeted in the morning with a bald eagle flying down the river at eye level. Our dog loved it and enjoyed testing out the cold mountain stream. It's seclusion and relaxation at the highest level and I cannot recommend it enough.
Stu
Bald eagles soar and trout jump just outside of the front door of this amazing cabin. The space was built by the current owner and the craftsmanship and personal details make it absolutely special. You will have personal/private access to your own stretch of the river with beautiful swimming and fishing holes. The pictures provided do not do this place justice. Book now.

Such a great stay! You are wonderful hosts and the property had everything we needed in a romantic, secluded getaway from home. Loved how beautiful things were inside and out.
Theresa & Jessie
Appreciated the remote location of the cabin situated above the clear-flowing Kalama River and part of land trust conservation area. A good place for self-reflection and writing in a setting of natural beauty.
Michael
The cabin was amazing! Breathtaking views and it took me back in time! Fishing was great and everything you could ever need was at the cabin!
Tyler
Surprised a friend with a trip to this wonderful cabin for her birthday. Tim was very communicative via phone and text and even had a colleague meet us upon arrival. We were able to see the local bald eagle and spent a wonderful day on the river spotting numerous birds and wildlife. Everything we needed was there…from cooking utensils, extra flannels & hats, hammock, firewood..etc. Property is very well maintained and clean, beds were comfy, and the trail down to the water is a moss carpeted lush green delight. We only wish we could have stayed longer!
Lottie
Heavenly. This river location, the sweet cabin, the distance from the road, the silence. Four siblings in their 30s all sleeping in bunkbeds, laughing and telling stories around the fire, cooking sweet meals in the small but very functional kitchen, hours and hours of fly fishing and sitting in the sun on the rivers edge. Not a single complaint. The hosts made sure we had all the info we needed prior to arrival and the local contact greeted us at the driveway to make sure we understood how to use the composting toilet, light the lanterns, and feel at home. We even left a bag behind and it was shipped to us by the owners. So grateful for this sanctuary on the river, for the perfect gathering, and for such wonderful hosts. We will be back.

YOUR HOST TIM
My wife Leanella and I are 80-something grandparents. I retired from book and software publishing and Lee is a recovering Pacific Northwest rancher! We love to share our 5-star Welch Cabin with those seeking natural beauty, spiritual connection and some simple peace and quiet. We operate as a 501c3 business that protects, preserves and promotes our beautiful part of the world.

YOUR HOST DAN
Dan is married to my biz partner Sharon. He's been a critical player at Welch Cabin some 25 years, and earns 5-star ratings from our visitors! Most of the time Dan greets our guests on arrival and provides a quick-start intro to the quirks and anamolies of life almost 'off the grid'. Dan and I have fished and hunted together for some 30 years. Give him a bear hug!
