Keeping the Spirit of Earth Day Alive All Year

Earth Day may come and go each April, but here at Welch Cabin, the spirit behind it stays with us all year long. Our cabin sits above the Kalama River in a protected stretch of forest and where the air feels a little clearer, the water runs a little wilder, and the land reminds you why caring for the planet matters. This place makes it easy to treat every day like Earth Day.

As a nonprofit retreat dedicated to environmental and health‑focused causes, our mission is rooted in stewardship. Every stay supports conservation work, and every part of the cabin reflects thoughtful choices that protect the land around us.
From resource‑efficient systems to the preservation of wild steelhead habitat, we work to ensure this forest remains healthy and resilient for generations to come.
While Earth Day encourages people to pause and appreciate the natural world, that pause happens naturally here. Guests often tell us that the forest slows their breathing, the river clears their mind, and the quiet brings them back to themselves. These moments of connection inspire gratitude and a renewed sense of responsibility for the landscapes we share.

Our hope is that each visitor leaves with a deeper relationship to nature. Whether you spend your time walking the trails, listening to the river from the deck, or simply watching the light shift through the trees, you become part of the story of this place. And that story is one of restoration, for both people and the land.
So even though Earth Day has passed, our commitment has not. We celebrate the planet through small acts of care, quiet moments of appreciation, and a shared promise to protect the wild spaces that make this world feel whole.
When you stay at Welch Cabin, you are not just visiting nature. You are helping preserve it.
